What has been your biggest connectivity challenge in 2020 - and how IoT connectivity and using a global connectivity service provider will help

18 November 2020

At last month’s NetHope Global Summit, Telecom26, and our long-term partner SystemOne, spoke about how we are “Using IoT connectivity to speed up the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in emerging markets”.

People from non-profits, technology and funding companies from across the world attended the summit to share their ideas and work "to design, fund, implement, adapt, and scale innovative approaches to solve development, humanitarian, and conservation challenges”. To encourage interaction and to gauge the pulse of the community, a number of online polls were conducted during the summit.

One such poll asked the question:

What has been your biggest connectivity challenge in 2020?

The results…

  • Lack of network performance, transparency and reporting - 55%
  • Managing different network providers across multiple regions/sites - 18%
  • Lack of technical support from network provider - 18%
  • Increased demand on network from applications, infrastructure and personnel/staff welfare - 9%

Of course, it would be interesting to know if people thought that these problems resulted from COVID, or whether they are ongoing problems experienced year after year in both developed and emerging markets.  We suspect the latter.

Although, with regards to increased demand, this will have been exacerbated by COVID. This March 2020 piece in Forbes magazine talks about how the demand for the internet surged during lockdowns across the world: “Broadband providers are thus far experiencing a traffic surge between 30% and 50% across their mobile and fixed networks”.

However, the first three challenges about the network and service providers are all linked - and, the good news is, they can all be solved.

Unhappy with your service provider?  MVNOs as global connectivity service providers

In our next blog we will discuss the Rise of the Super MVNO as described in this report by Mobilise Consulting, an MVNO analyst company.

Put simply, if service providers can’t - or won’t - provide the level of customer service and technical support needed then, according to the report, the “MVNO model is evolving, with all kinds of businesses realising the value in augmenting their offering through mobile services”.

Most organisations and consumers do have a choice of service providers. If your current supplier doesn’t value your custom, then time to move to a company that is hungrier and more nimble with a can-do attitude.

And, if managing different network providers is a problem then what you need is a global connectivity service provider…like Telecom26, for example!

Telecom26 operates as both a maritime MNO and a full global MVNO for terrestrial coverage.

Unlike most MVNOs, we own and manage our own core network and have inbound roaming agreements.

Owning and managing our own core network provides us with independence from other MNOs which is vital to ensure the highest level of security and data integrity.

Whilst our 350 direct inbound roaming agreements enable subscribes to roam onto both our maritime and private networks ensuring reliable full global coverage.

One SIM, One Supplier, Multiple Networks For Global Roaming

At the hard of Telecom26’s roaming service are our Multi-IMSI global SIM cards which enable one SIM to access all of the networks covered by our global roaming service.

Our global SIMs remove the need to worry about the coverage of a single MNO, or the existence of roaming alliances. Multiple-IMSI profiles are pre-loaded (and remotely configurable) on every SIM allowing for simple reconfiguration if the primary network has poor or no service.  This is all controlled via a customer administration portal.

Our Multi-IMSI global SIMs automatically select the best performing network in the area, cross-border, while providing you with the freedom to change SIM profiles and services with ease.

We can also customise our offering, and build routing profiles for each customer according to their needs and budget. For example, for organisations that are more price sensitive we can ensure that they automatically connect to the cheapest service in the area, rarely access expensive satellite links - and make the most of wifi for data-heavy up and downloads.

In a nutshell, Telecom26 enables data connectivity, anywhere - so that your team can connect to the best available network, regardless of location.

For our customers, our roaming service and global SIM cards, means that, as well as seamless connectivity, they have just one mobile phone contract with one bill, one point of contact and one set of SLAs.

We offer a full range of connectivity options including 5G, LTE, WiFi, private networks, 2G, 3G and 4G, as well as offshore connectivity capabilities.

So please Get in touch to find out how Telecom26 can help improve IoT connectivity and the global connectivity service used by your team, wherever they are in the world.
