Last month saw the annual CES show take place in Las Vegas and our team of IoT Connectivity experts were sad to miss out on what is the “most influential tech event in the world — the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators”.
According to this piece, “Connected cars drive the agenda at CES 2022” at this year’s show
“Car manufacturers and tech firms rolled out new smart motors and integrated connectivity software, showing ever more convergence between the two industries”.
“Tech firms are moving further into the automotive sector either by collaboration or more on their own steam, and automotive firms are looking to either integrate or develop their own connected systems for new electric vehicles”.
Meanwhile this piece in IoT World Today “What Smart Cities Reveal About Connected Car Data; Connected vehicle data is helping to improve roadway conditions and safety” discusses how sensors embedded into roads and tollbooths - and using IoT Connectivity and eSIMs - are improving highway conditions and quality of life in 50 smart cities in the US.
Telecom26, IoT Connectivity, eSIMs and Smart Cars
Interesting times ahead as both our roads and the vehicles on them get smarter. At Telecom26 we are already making great progress in the automotive sector.
Last year, we announced that we had been chosen as the new global mobile connectivity provider for the in-car fleet management systems of GlobalmatiX, a rising star in the telematics industry, whose customers include the world’s best known rental car brands including the Enterprise, Alamo and National brands.
This was the first customer win for our new Telematics eSIM service; Telecom26 eSIM profiles will be installed into all existing and future GlobalmatiX in-car boxes providing always-on connectivity with data being transmitted to GlobalmatiX’s cloud management system.
Our eSIMs connect to our Global Roaming Service which provides seamless coverage across 1100 cellular networks from over 625 mobile operators in more than 220 countries.
So now GlobalmatiX can monitor and communicate with vehicles wherever they are in the world.
IoT Connectivity, eSIMs, M2M and the automotive industry
As part of our series of papers on IoT Connectivity we have written this paper “Automotive IoT User Cases - Solving connectivity challenges for connected vehicles” which you can download from here.
In it we discuss how the automotive industry is already a huge consumer of IoT Connectivity and M2M applications including insurance tracking, car sharing and EV charging to name a few.
Regardless of how many IoT and M2M apps vehicles have, the common denominator is that they all need always-on connectivity - and the ability to easily roam onto any network, domestic and international for when vehicles cross borders.
