Last year we wrote a blog Starlink, Telecom26 and maritime connectivity about how our global mobile data connectivity team had received an urgent ‘Please Help Me’ call from a shipping company. Despite Starlink’s global reach, there are still some areas where it doesn’t yet have coverage. You can see all Starlink’s dark countries in the map on its website. And, these gaps can shift, as some regulators enforce a change in policy.
Telecom26 global mobile data connectivity service complements Starlink
That’s where we can help. If you use Starlink as your primary connectivity service, you can also depend on Telecom26 to fill in the gaps, wherever (and whenever) Starlink coverage is unavailable. It’s a complementary service that ensures consistent connectivity.
Our global mobile data connectivity service provides access to more than 1100 network connections and 650 mobile operators across more than 200 countries and territories to secure unrivalled global coverage - and fill the Starlink gaps.
Maritime connectivity
Maritime connectivity is one of Telecom26’s core services ensuring that vessels, offshore platforms, and global operations receive the always-on connectivity they need.
We’ve advised many of the shipping companies that have contacted us about maritime connectivity and global mobile data connectivity that they don’t actually need as much satellite capacity as they think because land-based cellular networks can now reach up to 50km out to sea as discussed in this blog: Satellite isn’t the only option to provide maritime connectivity to ships thanks to Telecom26’s maritime mobile connectivity service. And this means that, ship operators and owners can use our services as a backup for those places where Starlink is not available.
Earlier in the year Telecom26 and MiWire announced they are trialling a new eSIM-based maritime and global mobile data connectivity service that will provide fast and reliable data at a reduced price for commercial vessels — particularly ferries — that often sail on the same routes. We’ll be sharing the results of the trial shortly.
Another initiative that is enhancing connectivity, reducing costs, and improving efficiency and safety for maritime operators worldwide in areas that Starlink can’t reach is Telecom26’s partnership with VMS (Virtual Maritime Services) which you can read about here. So, it’s not just at sea – there are cellular gaps from land to sea too with Telecom26 also filling those gaps with our global mobile data connectivity service.
Filling cellular gaps on-land with Telecom26’s global mobile data connectivity service

Our global mobile data connectivity service is connecting people and devices from all kinds of industries including:
Connectivity for digital healthcare in remote rural areas
Our global mobile data connectivity service is being used for e-health initiatives in both emerging and mature markets where unreliable bandwidth and patchy connectivity can significantly affect the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as TB, HIV and Ebola. Starlink has significant gaps in its coverage in Africa including in Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Dijbouti – and more.
