…Telecom26’s Global SIM cards providing connectivity to monitoring devices across the world using cellular networks from over 650 mobile operators…
Telecom26 today announced that it is providing global connectivity to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) which studies and monitors the Earth so that potential earthquakes, volcanic erruptions and tsunamis can be identified before they occur.
INGV has monitoring stations across the world containing thousands of sensors and other terminals which require fast and reliable connectivity so that data can be shared in real-time with its researchers and analysts in Italy.
Telecom26 was introduced to INGV by its new partner New Alfatel, an Italian System Integrator that has been working with INGV for several years. Previously New Alfatel and INGV had been using the networks of the four Italian operators to connect the monitoring stations. However, this approach was proving to be costly as multiple SIMs from the four providers were needed to provide coverage to remote installations.
New Alfatel decided that INGV needed a global mobile operator which could guarantee connectivity everywhere at a cost-effective price. After conducting a thorough search for a global connectivity provider, and a three-month trial, Telecom26 was appointed by New Alfatel with global SIMs already shipped and being used.
Using Telecom26’s SIMs means that INGV’s devices can use its always-available global netwok wherever they are in the world. This means that technicians don’t need to manually change SIMs if the coverage from one network is poor.
In addition, INGV is saving money - and benefitting from the expertise of Telecom26’s service team. INGV can also easily manage its SIMs through Telecom26’s SIM management portal which provides real-time information about SIM usage.
Telecom26’s Global Mobile service uses the networks of 650+ mobile operators in more than 200 countries and territories. Its services include Enterprise Data Extra which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of business travellers providing cost- effective, dependable, secure mobile data connectivity whilst they are away for work. Enterprise Data Extra is available as an eSIM so users can keep their domestic physical SIM card - and re-activate it when they return home.
Stefano Cammi, New Alfatel’s Managing Director, said “INGV’s work is incredibly important to help protect lives and property. It needs the information it gathers to be transmitted in real-time to enable immediate analysis.
As part of our package of services for INGV we provided Viprinet and Celerway routers. Moving to Telecom26 for data connectivity means we will no longer have to spend time and money travelling to remote sites to change the SIMs in these routers when networks go down.
Telecom26’s SIMs are always connected to the best available network. Many thanks to Telecom26 for the great service”.
Nicola Berardocco, CEO of Telecom26, said “We are delighted to be working with our new partner New Alfatel on such an important project. Our Global SIMs coupled with our worldwide network are providing the connectivity that INGV needs. Smaller operators like Telecom26 are clearly more than capable of providing a better experience for organisations like INGV than the household names”.
