This year’s Mobile World Congress is fast approaching - and it’s a completely different show from the early days when operators and their supplies came together to discuss global mobile data connectivity. Amongst the “59% of adjacent industries” that the GSMA says will be attending are automotive and transport with a whole day of discussions set aside for smart mobility.
Connected vehicles is one of the key vertical markets for Telecom26’s team of global mobile data connectivity experts alongside fleet management and telematics applications including emergency call and roadside assistance, stolen vehicle tracking and recovery (SVT/SVR), vehicle diagnostics, convenience applications and usage-based pricing.
Telecom26’s global mobile data connectivity team will be out in force on our stand in Hall 5 (stand 5C30) as part of the Swiss Pavilion. Why not book a meeting to discuss how we can improve the global mobile data connectivity of your vehicles, people and their devices including IoT as they travel around the world?
Telecom26, global mobile data connectivity and smart mobility
Our global mobile data connectivity portfolio includes three services for the automotive and transport industries:
- GPS Tracking
- Global mobile data connectivity for telematics boxes
- Global mobile data connectivity for drivers
GPS Tracking: Integrated GPS reporting and connectivity.
Following demand from organisations already using our global mobile data connectivity services, last year Telecom26’s R&D team developed a GPS tracking service which uses our multi-network global mobile data connectivity SIM cards.
Telecom26’s GPS tracking service differs from other offerings in that it integrates both GPS tracking and global mobile data connectivity management. This integration makes life much easier for businesses who need to track their vehicles, products and people as they move around the world – and the IT and comms teams that support them. With the Telecom26 GPS tracking application, users have complete visibility of their devices and the SIMs assigned to each, allowing seamless control and reporting.

Global mobile data connectivity for telematics boxes
While today much of the global mobile data connectivity that telematics needs is enabled by traditional SIMs, a growing number of devices are shipped with eSIM capabilities – enabling connection and service profiles to be delivered over the air and avoiding the need to change physical components of the in-vehicle communications system.
Telecom26 provides global mobile data connectivity across borders to both physical and eSIM cards.
GlobalmatiX is one of Telecom26’s flagship telematics customers. Its telematics boxes have been installed in thousands of vehicles worldwide to monitor all aspects of performance and driver behaviour - and provide remote vehicle diagnostics information to fleet managers in real-time.
The data collected by the telematics boxes needs to be transmitted almost immediately to GlobalmatiX’s analysis cloud where it is aggregated, processed, analysed and prepared for examination by fleet owners.
The boxes must therefore be online 24/7/365. Instead of traditional, device-based SIMs to enable connectivity to different mobile networks, Telecom26 provides GlobalmatiX with an eSIM solution, enabling the remote download of new profiles to each in-car device – and avoiding the complex task of physically replacing the previous SIM cards.
Previously GlobalmatiX had used the SIM cards of local operators but each card had to be manually inserted into each individual box and could only use the network of its home operator. When the network went down, or the car moved into an area with little or no coverage - or outside the country - then global mobile data connectivity wasn’t available. And, with roaming, costs could rise.

Global mobile data connectivity for drivers and business travellers
Logistics companies who need to be able to contact their drivers wherever they are and pay their phone bill might like to contact us to discuss Telecom26’s two global mobile data connectivity services for business travellers.
Our ‘Grab & Go’ service was developed following requests from our existing, and potential, business customers who can now buy time-limited, pre-paid eSIMs which enable high-speed, cost effective global mobile data connectivity for people when they are travelling abroad – for a specified period of time, so covering them for the duration of their trip.
Grab & Go complements our Enterprise Data Extra global mobile data connectivity service which you can read more about in this blog: Telecom26 makes life easier for business travellers who need fast and cost-effective connectivity with Enterprise Data Extra
Our message to commercial drivers and business travellers is clear: there is no need for you to be worrying about your global mobile data connectivity when you’re travelling. Nor do you need to pay the high roaming charges of your domestic operator when you are abroad or to buy a local prepaid SIM or rely on insecure wifi networks. Contact Telecom26 for a travel eSIM instead.
And the best thing apart from reliable global mobile data connectivity and cheaper phone bills? You can easily switch back to your domestic operator when you’re back on home soil.
